These portraits were taken by San Francisco photographer Christopher Irion, who has created community portrait installations in more than 25 communities across the United States.
The “Thanks to Berkeley…” PhotoBooth project invites the Cal community to join together to express their pride and gratitude through portraits and words. All members of the Cal community are invited to participate in PhotoBooth events that will be held througout the five-years of The Campaign for Berkeley.
The campaign launched publicly on September 19, 2008. On that day, an installation featuring 426 portraits was unveiled on Dwinelle Plaza. At the same time, the campaign Web site launched with an online exhibit of more than 1,000 photos. Now, the online exhibit displays more than 2,000 images. Each time the PhotoBooth travels around and beyond campus, new portraits are added the site. This permanent online exhibit is a wonderful reflection of the spirit and diversity of the Cal community: the students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of Cal who are the University of California, Berkeley.
