The Campaign for the School of Public Health

The need for skilled public health professionals has never been greater. The nation now faces an estimated national shortage of 250,000 public health workers. In California, some 50 percent of governmental public health workers will retire within the next five years, creating a shortage of 25,000 in California alone!

To meet this national need, the school plans to double enrollment over the coming decade, increase the number of faculty and staff, and build a new, world-class public health center on the UC Berkeley campus.

UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health is educating a new generation of professional leaders in public health, engaging in rigorous interdisciplinary research, and serving as a well of expertise and resources on the local, state, national, and global levels. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni from the School of Public Health are confronting urgent issues including health-care reform, climate change, protection from infectious diseases, the promotion of global health, and the elimination of health-care inequalities.

State funds cover just 11 percent of the school’s operational expenses. Private support, which has fueled the school’s prominence and leadership on public health issues, is needed more than ever as we face serious challenges to global health. Your investment in the School of Public Health is a gift to our children, other family members, neighbors, and fellow global citizens.
