The Campaign for the University Library

A foundation of the academic experience, the University Library is an extraordinary resource that supports excellence in scholarship and innovative thinking across the campus. Serving undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and alumni, the Library has embraced new ways of delivering information and remained an essential Berkeley institution.

The Campaign for the University Library meets two pressing needs: revitalizing Moffitt Library and enriching Berkeley’s collections.

Moffitt Library introduces undergraduates to academic life and scholarship — serving as a place to study, collaborate, write, and research. With dramatic shifts in communication and information technology over the past several decades, the Library has evolved to meet student needs. In an effort to evolve further, Berkeley must expand study spaces equipped with technology for individual work and collaboration, upgrade the computer center, better showcase student work and research, and create new presentation arenas.

The University Library’s world-renowned research collections, which are housed in several dozen libraries across campus, support students and faculty in 130 academic departments. UC Berkeley’s world-class education and research depend on ready access to a comprehensive record of human knowledge, and strengthening these collections enables the Library to satisfy a voracious quest for information.
