International and Area Studies

Promoting a global perspective

In an increasingly global society we must bring to our educational programs new international content and experiences to help prepare tomorrow’s citizens and leaders. The Division of International and Area Studies (IAS) serves as the hub for global and international activity on the UC Berkeley campus. Nearly 50 interdisciplinary, comparative, and world area research centers, institutes, and programs constitute IAS. Gifts to IAS enhance learning on global affairs and international relations by supporting faculty teaching and research on global and regional issues, providing scholarship support for students interested in different regions of the world, fostering international scholarly collaboration, establishing new outreach and public programs, and increasing opportunities for UC Berkeley students to study abroad.
