The Goldman School of Public Policy prepares tomorrow’s leaders by engaging them in today’s pressing policy issues that demand the collaboration of government, business, and the nonprofit sector. Multidisciplinary by design, the school brings exceptional scholarship in economics, political science, law, social psychology, and engineering to bear on the complex social, political, and economic challenges facing our society. Using the methods and techniques developed by Goldman faculty and other policy scientists, the school trains leaders to identify and solve problems.
Goldman School alumni pursue their deep commitment to the public good equipped with rigorous analytical tools, a hands-on understanding of policymaking, and a strong commitment to making government work better. In contrast to other acclaimed public policy schools, two-thirds of the school’s graduates pursue service in the public interest and government sectors following graduation. Through research, teaching, and public testimony, faculty members address policy ”hot spots“ such as sustainable energy, labor markets and technology, poorly performing governmental institutions, immigration, national security, and health-care disparities — often shaping public policies at the state, national, and international levels.
A transformative gift from Richard and Rhoda Goldman in 1997 enabled the school to reach a greater level of prominence. New visiting faculty members and lecturers enriched and invigorated the curriculum. The size of the student body — including master’s and doctoral candidates — more than doubled. This expanded student body launched student-led journals and public-service groups focused on issues such as environmental policy and international affairs.
Private philanthropy bolsters the Goldman School’s ability to draw top students and faculty who are committed to bringing about real-world policies that safeguard the public good. The Campaign for the Goldman School of Public Policy will raise $30 million to support:
