From becoming strong teachers and school leaders, to researching individual learning styles, to studying the policy and cultural issues that shape education, Berkeley students in the Graduate School of Education are leading the way toward solving challenges in today’s toughest learning environments. Since most aspiring educators cannot anticipate high salaries after graduation to help pay back loans, fellowship support is critical to our ability to attract the brightest minds and most creative talents.
Your investment in graduate fellowships may be designated for a student seeking professional certification as an urban elementary school teacher, a secondary math and science or English teacher, or an urban principal — impacting not only those graduates, but the students, families, and communities they will serve.
By establishing a graduate fellowship endowment, you help the University build a secure source of funding for recruiting the most committed future educators and leaders. Gifts made during The Campaign for Berkeley will significantly increase the fellowship support available for graduate students in two ways. Each year, a portion of the endowment payout will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the University’s current graduate support funds in order to make competitive fellowship awards. The other portion will be invested back into the endowment to accelerate the growth of the principal. Through this public-private partnership, your endowment gift will make an immediate and lasting impact.
A gift of $500,000 will create an endowment to provide full financial support for the education and research of one Ph.D. student or two aspiring urban teachers or administrators.
A gift of $300,000 will create an endowment to provide support for one semester of each academic year for one Ph.D. student or two aspiring urban teachers or administrators.
A gift of $50,000 will create an endowment to provide partial financial support for one or several graduate students.
A gift of $10,000 will create an endowment to provide scholarship support.
With your gift of $10,000 or more, you may establish an educational legacy in your name, or in honor of a professor, colleague, mentor, or loved one. The principal of an endowment is held intact in perpetuity and invested for growth to provide a steady flow of income to support your designated purpose. An annual award of approximately 5 percent of the principal will be made to a deserving master’s or Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Education.
All gifts made to the Graduate School of Education during the campaign count toward the campaign goal. Make an online gift to the School of Education Scholarship Fund.
