California College Preparatory Academy
The Graduate School of Education (GSE) advances research and teaching initiatives that prepare our youth — especially those who have been poorly served — for success in education, work, and citizenship. The California College Preparatory Academy (Cal Prep), UC Berkeley’s charter school, provides a real-world laboratory where GSE faculty and students can develop and test what defines effective teaching and learning in urban schools.
Cal Prep prepares children in grades 6 through 12 who will be the first in their families to attend college by developing their academic, critical thinking, and creative skills and engaging them in enrichment activities year-round. GSE faculty and students regularly interact with Cal Prep teachers to ensure that the children’s learning needs are being met.
Cal Prep is building a model program for student success in a college-going culture. Your investment will play a significant role in improving opportunity for future generations, widening the path to full participation and achievement in our democratic society.
Opportunities to give
$15,000,000 Permanent School Facility
Provides funds for constructing a permanent state-of-the-art facility in proximity to UC Berkeley. (Cal Prep is currently located in West Oakland.)
$5,000,000 Cal Prep Endowed Fund for Student Excellence
Provides per-pupil assistance beyond the ADA allotment to ensure that Cal Prep students are receiving equitable academic and cultural supports. ADA, or Average Daily Attendance, refers to state funds given to school districts based on student attendance. This level of funding is inadequate for preparing underserved youth for college success.
$1,000,000 Early College Endowed Fund
Provides support for high school students from a wide range of backgrounds with diverse prior accomplishments to accelerate their success while taking college-level courses.
$50,000 Cal Prep Endowed Fund for Program Enrichment
Provides restricted and unrestricted support for use in Cal Prep’s programs and initiatives. With your gift of $50,000 or more, you may establish an educational legacy in your name, or in honor of a professor, colleague, mentor, or loved one. The principal of an endowment is held intact in perpetuity and invested for growth to provide a steady flow of income to support your designated purpose.
